Six Months No Work
They say it’ll be another couple of months before I can go back to work. At least I’ve been able to beat my high score on Yar’s Revenge, and I’m getting really good at AD&D Cloudy Mountain.
The BBS is doing well and I’ve got a number of regulars who seem to be locals, as well as some out-of-towners. Long distance is expensive, so either they’re rich, they’re phreaking, or they’re sharing the same hacked PC Pursuit accounts I do.

The more I read in the papers, the more I think maybe Cline’s a patsy. Investigators couldn’t get the drapes to burn in the way Cline said the fire started, and at one point they said there were four separate points of ignition on four separate floors. You mean to tell me a kid supposedly high on grass ran to four separate floors and set fire to the drapes in a way that the investigators couldn’t even do?
One good thing has come out of all this tragedy: Back in March, Nevada fire codes got updated due to two major hotel fires within a 3 month period, and hotels are now REQUIRED to install automatic sprinkler systems. Why this wasn’t required before I’ll never fathom. Cheap-ass construction, is all I can figure. Cut corners, and this is what you get.
Re: MGM - I also heard a rumor that hotel execs were worried that water damage from sprinklers could damage the hotel’s expensive interior and electronics. Let’s see… fucked up wallpaper and soaked carpet or DEAD PEOPLE? Gee, I don’t know, it’s SUCH a difficult decision! Most of that shit was plastic, anyway…
